Adventures with Jackfruit

Adventures with Jackfruit

On 14 March 2026, Helixians embarked on an intriguing adventure with jackfruit, a fruit that can weigh more than 50kg and is highly versatile. The event was conducted by none other than one of our Resident Fellows, A/P Dan McAllister, who began by sharing about his experiences and encounters with this exotic fruit. Participants then took part in a Kahoot quiz to deepen their understanding of jackfruits, learning interesting things such as its weight and various culinary uses.

After the mini activity, we visited a few jackfruit trees located opposite our residences, near King Edward VII Hall, to understand the fruit’s growth process and how it can eventually reach such an impressive size. The Helixians then returned to our lounge to get hands-on experience opening jackfruits, many for the first time. They experimented with various ways of opening the jackfruit, from using conventional knives to ripping it open together with their bare hands. By the end of the event, participants not only left brimming with knowledge about jackfruit, but also with bags of the fruit to share with their friends and families.

Needless to say, the participants thoroughly enjoyed the event, as they were really excited and intrigued to learn about and interact with an exotic fruit that has been familiar yet unexplored in Singapore.

A lively and engaging activity that promotes peer bonding and shared discovery.
