Helix House Explored Vietnam: An Enriching Journey with the Southeast Asian Friendship Initiative (SFI)

From 11 to 20 December, 2024, Helix House embarked on a transformative journey to Vietnam as part of the Southeast Asian Friendship Initiative (SFI2044). The 10-day trip offered students a unique blend of cultural immersion, multidisciplinary learning, and unforgettable experiences.

Participants explored the vibrant streets of Hanoi, and scaled the Fansipan Mountain in Sapa. Each destination brought new insights. Visits to the Bat Trang Ceramic Village and Minh Khai Recycling Craft Village highlighted sustainable practices, while lectures at Vietnam National University deepened understanding of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) like clean energy, responsible consumption, and quality education.

For many, the trip offered a fresh perspective. Bryan Tan reflected on viewing Vietnam through a multidisciplinary lens, appreciating its economic diversity and cultural layers. Amily Tan and Pan Xinyi were inspired by Vietnam's sustainable practices, from pottery to recycling initiatives. Faustina Pang noted the resilience of rural communities, while Lim Wei Song and Kenneth Teo learned about sustainability and nutrition through Vietnam’s unique landscapes and cuisine.

Highlights included crafting pottery, engaging in cultural exchanges with Phenikaa University students, and observing the energy sector’s role in sustainable development at the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant. These experiences not only expanded participants' global perspectives but also inspired them to reflect on their own lifestyles and contributions to sustainability.

Helix House extends heartfelt gratitude to all organizers and partners for making this journey possible. Here's to more such enriching adventures!
